Truman Capote once said, "Conversation is a dialogue, not a monologue." It's true. Whether it's an opinion on a post or feedback about my work, your voice matters. Come on; Let me know what you're thinking.

Show me Your Muffin Tops

Tomorrow, I will be dropping by Guerilla Arts (@ 1900 N. Haskell if you would like to join) to see some muffin tops. Actually, I’m talking about real muffins here. As her medium, Leah Foster uses food coloring, icing, and cake batter. From what I can tell (on the Facebook invite), the food coloring in her paintings have a deeply saturated pigment that you can’t get with oils or acrylics. The invite also points out that she showcased at the UTD studio. A fellow UTD student/alum, perhaps? Can’t wait to see it!

Old Stuff is Motivating Sometimes (Not This Guy, Though)

old man

I’ve been following my friend Sehila’s blog lately; She’s documenting her travels and experiences in the Netherlands and Belgium as part of her study abroad art history program. If you’re anything like me, you never give any thought to just how old Europe is. I’m looking at her photos of Rembrandt’s bed, paints, and canvases and am reminded of how old and rich the history is over there. Makes me want to paint stuff :)

I ordered some art supplies early this week. I’m just waiting now. Something’s about to happen. I can feel it.

Kerrville & The Public Trust

Brent Ozaeta

Sorry for my absence, folks. As I stated last week, I visited Brent Ozaeta’s closing reception at The Public Trust. I was able to talk to him for a little bit and asked him what keeps his creative juices flowing and how he’s able to create piece after piece. He told me that it helps to have goals and deadlines. This totally makes sense, by the way, and it’s mind-boggling that I haven’t done this yet. I’ve set goals and deadlines on past web work (including this site), yet I’ve never set any for my paintings. Never even thought of it, really.

Anyways, during my web-absence, I’ve come up with another painting idea that has yet to see the canvas, and I made a 2.5 day trip to the Kerrville Folk Festival. Saying that this experience completely detaches you from reality and the daily grind for a couple of days does no justice. You’d just have to experience it for yourself. On that note, David hand crafted a beautiful bass-banjo for the event and made it into the Austin Statesman. We have a copy but are working on getting a digital copy. I’ll keep you updated.
